Pawlenty Considers His Lawyer For Minn. Judgeship

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Gov. Tim Pawlenty is considering his in-house lawyer for a judicial post.

The governor's office says Karen Janisch is one of four finalists for two Hennepin County judgeships.

Janisch has been the governor's general counsel since 2003. Before that, she was a partner at Rider, Bennett, Egan and Arundel, the law firm Pawlenty also worked at.

The Commission on Judicial Selection picked Janisch and three other finalists from 40 applications.

Pawlenty will pick the judges. The two positions on the bench are open because Judge Pamela Alexander retired in June and Judge E. Anne McKinsey is retiring next month.

The other finalists are Hennepin County prosecutor Michelle Hatcher and attorneys Joseph Klein and Thomas Sipkins.
