The wide-open presidential race has Minnesota Democratic and Republican leaders bracing for heavy turnout at the state's caucuses in two weeks.
State DFL chairman Brian Melendez expects there to be 70,000 people at his party's local gatherings -- a turnout that would rival Vietnam War-era caucuses.
On the Republican side, party chairman Ron Carey is counting on turnout of 30,000 to 50,000 people.
The opposing party leaders appeared together Tuesday to promote the Feb. 5 caucuses. Both men say their party headquarters are fielding a steady stream of calls inquiring about the caucuses.
Both parties will hold preference ballots on caucus night, but only the Democratic vote is considered binding.
