Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he is moving quickly to come up with a plan for $2.7 billion in spending cuts and delayed state payments.
Pawlenty says he will hold a cabinet meeting on Thursday to discuss the plan and make his outline of cuts public before July 1.
He is also taking citizen input through an
e-mail address.
Pawlenty says he doesn't want to drag out the process. He says he will seek cuts in welfare, local government aid, higher education and other social services spending.
The Republican governor is using an executive authority called unallotment to balance the budget after signing spending bills and vetoing tax increases.
The Legislature adjourned early Tuesday after passing a tax bill Pawlenty is promising to veto. That leaves the budget gap.

The President of the U.S. was granted the power to line-item veto legislation in 1996. In 1998, U.S. Supreme Court ruled that law unconstitutional. Most state governors retain this power, however.
