Republican Rep. Paul Kohls is jumping into the race for Minnesota governor.
The four-term state lawmaker from Victoria says he filed paperwork for a campaign committee with state campaign finance regulators on Thursday.
Kohls says the race is "completely wide open" on the GOP side after Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced he wouldn't seek a third term. Kohls is one of about a dozen Republicans planning to run or considering a campaign.
A pack of Democrats have also announced, or are thinking about it.
Kohls says his focus will be on fiscal restraint.
