The Minnesota Legislature is set to vote today on a transportation spending plan opposed by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Debate is expected to get underway later Thursday morning.
The bill would raise $7.8 billion for roads and transit over the next decade.
The money would come from a higher gas tax, a metropolitan sales tax for mass transit and increased license tab fees for new vehicles.
Pawlenty has promised to veto the bill, so the real question is whether at least five House Republicans will join the DFL majority to make the bill law over the governor's objections.
That won't be immediately clear from today's vote, because some may vote differently on an override.
The dozen or so lawmakers whose votes could make the difference have been the target of intense lobbying.
