Senate Candidates Set Debates

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― U.S. Senate candidates Norm Coleman, Al Franken and Dean Barkley have agreed to hold five debates between now and the November election.

The three campaigns just released a schedule of their meetings. Debates will be held in Rochester on October 5; in the Twin Cities on October 11; in Duluth on October 16; and two more in the Twin Cities on October 24 and November 2.

Up until now, the three major-party candidates have only shared a stage once. They all appeared at a Senate candidate forum at the Farmfest agriculture expo in Redwood Falls last month.

Recent statewide polls have shown a close race between Coleman, the incumbent Republican, and Democrat Franken. Barkley registered a surprisingly strong 13 percent in a Star Tribune Minnesota Poll released earlier this week.
