The author of a $200 million public works bill says it's too early to put in money for Red River Valley flooding.
Rep. Alice Hausman from St. Paul says it could take a month or more to assess the damage.
Meanwhile, state officials are waiting to hear how much federal disaster aid is coming.
Hausman says she expects the Legislature to help northwestern Minnesota communities recover from historic flooding, probably in a separate bill.
Rep. Paul Marquart. a Democrat whose hometown of Dilworth is in the flood area, said the state needs to take measures to protect Red River residents from future floods.
His comments on the House floor were seconded by Rep. Morrie Lanning, a Republican from hard-hit Moorhead.
