Bloomington To Allow 4 A.M. Convention Bar Time

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) ― There will be plenty of time for partying in Bloomington during the Republican National Convention.

The City Council there has voted to allow bars to stay open until 4 a.m.

It's possible more bars in the southern Twin Cities suburb will take advantage of the expanded hours than in St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The reason? Most bars in Bloomington will be able to stay open late without paying a fee.

In Minneapolis and St. Paul, bars are being required to pay a $2,500 fee to stay open until 4 a.m. Some bar owners have said it's not worth it.

The convention takes place September 1-4 in downtown St. Paul.
