The leading Democrat to criticize Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken over racy material from his past career in satire isn't picking sides now that Franken faces a primary challenger.
U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum said Friday that she is waiting to ask Franken how he plans to put the issue over his material behind him and unseat Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.
Her staff and his staff are setting up a meeting.
"I will have some questions for him, and depending on how he answers them, there could be another question or there aren't any questions," McCollum told The Associated Press at the Minnesota Capitol, where she attended an unrelated event.
She added: "I'm going to ask him what his plans are for winning the Senate race and what his plans are for putting a lot of the issues that have been raised and continue to be raised behind him."
Franken campaign spokesman Andy Barr said the former "Saturday Night Live" personality is "looking forward to talking with her about that."
McCollum said she doesn't know much about Priscilla Lord Faris, the St. Paul attorney who emerged this week as Franken's Democratic primary opponent.
