St. John's Professor To Run Against Bachmann

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (AP) ― An associate professor at St. John's University says he's seeking the Republican nomination for Michele Bachmann's congressional seat.

Fifty-two-year-old Aubrey Immelman announced his candidacy for the 6th Congressional District seat earlier this week.

He says he's running to restore conservative values, including fiscal responsibility and strong national security.

Immelman says he's opposed to the Iraq war, saying it has further destabilized the Middle East, strengthened Iran and hurt the United States.

Immelman teaches a course in profiling, and has a national reputation for his personality profiles of presidential candidates, world leaders and terrorist leaders.

He says he has been a consultant to the US military on nuclear nonproliferation issues and on reducing the threat of weapons of mass destruction to the country.
