Purported Wolf Will Find A New Home

AUSTIN, Minn. (WCCO) ― An animal that was purchased online under the assumption that it was a wolf will find a new home after all.

The animal was bought on Craigslist from a customer in Austin, Minn. The seller claimed it was a wolf, but others believe it to be a dog. Many have noted it resembles a white German shepherd.

Authorities were alerted to the mystery pet, named Dakota, when the purchaser's mother-in-law acted out of concern for her grandchildren.

Authorities, in turn, annexed the furry friend because it is unlawful to own a wolf as a pet in Mower County.

But now the Austin Police Chief said he has found a safe place to send Dakota that will find her a new home even if it turns out she is a wolf.

Earlier this week, the International Wolf Center executive director said her staff would never try introducing a 1-year-old wolf.

Austin Police said they don't plan to charge the purchaser, Dustin Dennison, with a crime. They say he didn't realize he was breaking city and county law.
