The one-eared black bear whose northeastern Minnesota hibernation spot put her life in jeopardy apparently won't need a pardon from Minnesota's governor after all.
The mother bear, dubbed Solo, is hibernating with her two cubs beneath a seasonal cabin in Eagles Nest Township. The Department of Natural Resources caused an uproar this week when officials said they might euthanize Solo and move her cubs because of public safety concerns.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty said Friday he didn't want to see Solo put down, and that he might "grant a pre-holiday pardon for this bear."
But state Rep. David Dill, whose district include the township, said he'd been told by DNR Commissioner Mark Holsten that a deal had been reached to fly the bears to an undisclosed location in South Dakota.
