Charges: Man Shot Puppies, Threatened Man With Gun

WILLMAR, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Willmar, Minn. man has been taken into custody and charged with assault and animal cruelty for allegedly shooting seven puppies.

The criminal complaint states Terence Dale Schwartz, 57, also threatened a man with a gun last Saturday before shooting the puppies.

Police said Schwartz denied pointing a gun at the man, whose sister owned the dogs and was a renter on the premises.

Schwartz did tell police he told the woman he wanted them removed from the property and shot them with a pistol when they were returned.

Officers found five killed puppies and two more that were shot and taken to a veterinary clinic.

Schwartz had blood and swelling around his mouth, which would indicate the other man's claims they had gotten in a scuffle were true. It was during the fight the man said Schwartz pointed the gun at his face multiple times.

Schwartz is scheduled to be back in court next month.
