Poodle Attacked By Woman With Knife

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― A little dog was back home Thursday afternoon after it had part of its tail cut off.

When police were called to the home in North Minneapolis, they found 56-year-old Brenda Jordan outside and her own daughter accusing her of attacking the dog with a knife.

Poo is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu-poodle mix, who seemed so happy despite what she's been through. Around midnight Wednesday night, Poo was barking. Alexis Jordan described what her mother did next.

"She goes upstairs and grabs a knife. I didn't realize it until she got downstairs and started doing this [stabbing motion] so I ended up taking the knife out of her hand," said Poo's owner Alexis.

"I turned the light on and I see blood everywhere and I realized she done cut my dog up," said Alexis.

Alexis felt torn about calling police on her own mother, but said there have been problems with drinking and violent tendencies. Poo was taken for surgery and then to animal control. Brenda Jordan was taken to jail.

"The lady alleged that the dog had bit her but the officers at the scene couldn't find any evidence of that. So this wasn't self defense against a dangerous dog. This was her going out, trying to hurt the dog," said Minneapolis Sergeant Jesse Garcia.

"I didn't ever think she would do something like this ... So when she did it, it's like, if she'll do it to the dog, what will she do to my kids?" Alexis Jordan said.

As soon as animal control opened this afternoon, Alexis went to pick up her beloved pup, now with a few stitches in her tail. But she doesn't need to wag for you to see that she's happy to be going home.

Brenda Jordan was charged with a misdemeanor for animal mistreatment, but that could rise to a gross misdemeanor. Her daughter wants to get her into a treatment program.
