A 46-year-old Zimmerman man gets two years probation and a $2,500 fine for killing a gray wolf in northern Minnesota.
Steven Alan Taylor received his sentence in federal court in Duluth last week. As part of his probation, he can't hunt anywhere in the U.S. for two years.
Taylor killed the gray wolf in November 2002 near Shamrock Lake. At the time, the gray wolf was listed as a threatened wildlife species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Recovery efforts have increased the gray wolf population. It was removed from the endangered species list in the western great Lakes region in March 2007.
