Fish Kill Reported On Minnesota-Iowa Border

ST. ANSGAR, Iowa (AP) ― The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill in Otter Creek about one half-mile south of the Iowa-Minnesota border.

The Department of Natural Resources says the water in the Mitchell County creek is cloudy, has a strong odor of animal waste and high levels of ammonia.

The Department of Natural Resources estimates the fish kill happened sometime between 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday. The DNR says two people who found the fish dead on Monday morning had been fishing Sunday night.

The Department of Natural Resources says it found minnows, creek chubs and suckers, but not many game fish. The department's fisheries staff is still counting the number of fish killed.
