What started as a frantic search for stolen hunting dogs ended Thursday afternoon with a joyful reunion.
A Twin Cities man's two Brittanys were in the back of his pickup truck when it was stolen from a store parking lot in Buffalo, Minn. Wednesday night. Late Thursday afternoon he got the call he was hoping for, after being on an emotional rollercoaster for the last 24 hours.
The relatives of Keith Solorez's two identical looking Brittanys tried to comfort the owner who's heartsick about his stolen dogs.
"They're everything to me. I have three boys but I say I have two daughters too," said dog owner Solorez.
He's had the oldest hunting dog, named Brit, for 12 years. Her granddaughter, Remy, for 3 years.
"From September to January those two and myself are as close as ... any hunting companion could be," he said.
On Wednesday night the dogs were in his pick up truck, with the keys inside, when he ran into a hardware store. Ten minutes later he came out to find his car and two dogs were gone.
"That's the only thing I'm looking for is the dogs," Solorez said.
Since then his friends and relatives have searched for the dogs. Then came the call he longed for.
Turns our the dogs were at a Brooklyn Park animal hospital.
"To whoever turned them in, thank you very much. You don't know what these two mean to me," Solorez sad.
The two dogs were rewarded with reunion bones as they headed home.
The hospital staff said the two dogs were dropped off at there in the morning by someone in a hurry. They called Buffalo Police after seeing a posting about the dogs on Craigslist.
So far there are no leads but police are questioning the animal hospital staff to learn more about who dropped the dogs off.
