Fire Dept. Rescues Would-Be Cat Rescuer From Tree
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (WCCO) ―
This Independence Day, there is a happy ending for a St. Louis Park cat stuck in a tree.
"Baby Kitty" was stuck in a neighbor's tree for 36 hours.
"It was sad, and he was really sad. It was a really sad kind of meow," said Baby Kitty's owner, Page Mason. "It was hard to stand here and listen to him."
Mason and her neighbors called the fire department, but were told firefighters couldn't put a person in danger for a cat. They also tried some pet service companies, but no one seemed to be able to help.
After several hours, neighbor Dan Grady decided to climb the tree. He hadn't really thought about how he'd get down.
"I was thinking I could, but once I got up there, it was a little hard to hold onto the cat. I was nervous, and climb out of the tree at the same time," he said.
This time they called, the fire department came with ladders. They gave Grady a pillowcase, and the cat was handed down. Grady then made it down by himself.
Mason is thankful. She plans to de-claw Baby Kitty next week.
"He's fine. He ate and now he's really anxious to go outside, but we're instructed not to let him outside again," she said.
The fire department does not recommend people climb trees to rescue cats. The neighbors will not be fined.
