Body Found Inside Burning Vehicle Ruled Accident

(WCCO) The Sawyer County Sheriff's Department said the death of a man found burning in a vehicle near Hayward, Wis. was an accident.

Police said they were notified of a vehicle fire at a residence around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday and upon extinguishing the fire, found the deceased subject inside. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office said the man died as a result of smoke inhalation and the death was accidental.

Although the identification has not yet been confirmed, officials believe the man was Darwin Drake, 65, of Hayward.

Drake had recently been living out of his car, a 1992 Chevy Suburban, according to the investigation. Drake also owned the property where the burning car was discovered.
