of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe." It's simultaneously
darker and funnier, more substantive and more engaging, more violent
and more technically accomplished.

'What Happens in Vegas'

You've undoubtedly seen the ubiquitous television commercials in which
Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher bicker and beat each other
black-and-blue but, secretly, seethe with lust. And you already know
that they'll end up softening their stances and falling for each other
in the end — it's pretty standard stuff by now. One does not go to a
romantic comedy for the Shyamalan-style plot twists.

'Iron Man'

Much of the allure of "Iron Man" comes from the fact that we are
indeed talking about a man — a real man who has lived a life and made
mistakes and experienced regret — not some scrawny, teenage boy who
received his superhero powers through a bite from a radioactive spider.

'Baby Mama'

Tina Fey didn't write "Baby Mama," though you'd be forgiven for
walking into it and assuming she did. After all, her face appears
prominently on the movie's ubiquitous posters, alongside that of
co-star and former "Saturday Night Live" cast mate Amy Poehler.

'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'

So perhaps the rumors of Judd Apatow's demise were greatly exaggerated.
Following the disappointing performance of "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox
Story" and the flop that was "Drillbit Taylor," Apatow is back in
classic form with his latest producing effort.

'Street Kings'

An ultraviolent film about bad cops gets bungled by a tired script and unintentionally funny dialog.

'Leatherheads'

Maybe the best offense in a real football game is a good defense.
Not so in a movie about the early years of the sport, when pro football
was a poor cousin to the college game.

'Stop-Loss'

Since 1999's "Boys Don't Cry," Kimberly Peirce initially wanted to make a documentary about soldiers who had fought in the Iraq war, but instead she decided to make a feature film. Certainly, there has been no shortage of nonfiction films about this conflict, but considering the frustrating unevenness of "Stop-Loss," Peirce's intentions alone make one curious about what her documentary might have been like.

'Run, Fat Boy, Run'

The most immediate and glaring problem with "Run, Fat Boy, Run" is that it's lacking a "fat boy." It might be very American to think so, but Simon Pegg, the British
comedian of "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead," is not portly by any
means, but merely - as he asserts himself in the film - "unfit." A sense of mismatched talent pervades this comedy, directed by David Schwimmer ("Friends").
