Rebate Check Deals

Stores with promotions offering ways to spend your rebate check.

(WCCO) The owners of both Rainbow Foods and Cub Foods will add an additional 10 percent to the value of gift cards. And Rainbow is throwing in some free groceries. The money has to come from your rebate checks-- The program starts next Friday.. and runs through July.

RadioShack is offering a 10-percent discount on purchases of $50 or more when a stimulus check or IRS tax refund is used as payment.

Sears Holdings, which includes Sears and Kmart, has a rewards program under which customers who bring their stimulus checks to a Sears or Kmart cash register can convert the amount of the check into gift cards, plus receive a bonus gift card worth an additional 10 percent. These gift cards can be redeemed at any Sears, Kmart or Lands' End retail stores.

J.C. Penney and Wal-mart are also considering a check-cashing service for its customers' rebate checks.

Staples is using promotions to urge small-business owners to spend their rebates. Until May 4, it's offering $50 off purchases of $500 or more and $150 off furniture costing at least $1,000. Through June 30, for purchases of more than $499 with a Staples credit card, the store will charge no interest and require no payments for six months.

Grocery retailer Supervalu Inc, owner of Albertsons and other supermarket chains, has said shoppers can exchange their economic stimulus or tax refund checks for a store gift card loaded with extra money. Under the offer valid from May 2 through July 31, customers can redeem their checks for store gift cards in $300 increments, and stores will add an extra $30 to each card.

Home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc plans to encourage consumers to spend the refund checks on energy-efficient products, with promotions on compact florescent lightbulbs and Energy Star appliances, starting in May.

Lowes, the No. 2 home improvement retailer, has kicked off its spring campaign, called "Welcome Back Spring," about three weeks early this year, getting customers primed to spend that rebate money.

Sony Electronics Inc. will launch its first-ever tax season advertising campaign, nudging shoppers to buy Sony Bravia HD TVs with their rebates -- and heavily promoting Sony home theater systems.
