Message From WCCO-TV News Director
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
WCCO-TV News Director, Scott Libin, shared this message for people concerned about interruptions in regular programming Sunday evening:
Thank you for writing to share your feelings about our interruption of programming Sunday evening. As you probably know by now, the tornado that struck the community of Hugo caused loss of life and immense damage to property. We understand that it can be frustrating to have your evening's entertainment disrupted by a disaster that doesn't directly affect you. I cannot, however, justify withholding information of such urgency and importance for hours until our next regularly scheduled newscast. I'm confident that those who live in or near Hugo, or who have loved ones there, will have no complaints about our decision to give this event immediate attention. We would do the same for any community in our viewing area.
We take very seriously our obligation to provide timely and thorough coverage of major breaking news, and you can count on us to do so in similar situations in the future. We appreciate your watching, and we regret the inconvenience but hope you understand our priorities.
