Workers' Memorial Being Built At Minn. Capitol

ST. PAUL (AP) ― They're moving dirt and pouring concrete for the newest memorial on the Minnesota Capitol grounds.

Crews anticipate finishing the Memorial Garden for all Minnesota Workers by next summer. It's main feature is a carved native stone wall paying tribute to workers who have lost their lives on the job.

The garden-style memorial is on the south side of the Capitol Mall and just east of a plaza recognizing to World War II veterans. Other memorials on the grounds honor veterans of the Korean and Vietnam wars as well as a monument to fallen police officer.

The new memorial is being paid for with a combination of state, federal and private donations. All told, it's due to cost $423,000, according to the state Department of Administration.
