The man driving the stolen car, 33-year-old Tito Fonzio Campbell of Roseville, was arrested and is being held on a charge of vehicular criminal homicide.
On Saturday night, Roseville Police say they were called to the 600 block of West Highway 36 to check out a report of a stolen car. While they were on the way, officers say they were told the suspect in the theft, identified as Campbell, had returned and was attacking the victim.
An officer responding to the call said he arrived to see the stolen car, a Chrysler 300M, leaving the scene on Highway 36. The officer followed with the squad car's lights and siren on, but stopped his pursuit when he saw the Campbell driving aggressively.
A short time later, a witness called police about a crash at the Larpenteur Avenue exit from Interstate 35E. When officers arrived, they say they found the stolen car and another vehicle involved in the crash with two adults inside. Inside the stolen car were Campbell and a 10-year-old boy.
The 10-year-old boy found in the vehicle was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His relationship to Campbell isn't yet known.
Police arrested Campbell at the scene and he was taken to Regions Hospital with minor injuries. The results of a blood alcohol test aren't yet available.
Roseville police are handling a criminal investigation and expect to present the case to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.
The victims' family members said the couple was on their way home from a church event when the crash happened.
