Fans Line Up Early For Tickets To 'Wicked'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The last time it came to the Twin Cities it sold out in three hours. Tickets for the return engagement of the smash Broadway musical "Wicked" are once again drawing huge crowds.

Fans started lining up for tickets at 2 a.m. Thursday. When the tickets finally went on sale at 8 a.m. the line snaked down and around the block.

"I've been here at this time over two hours," said Wicked fan Kristy Lucksinger.

"I have my pajamas on ... I brushed my teeth and that was about it. Normally I'm really pretty," said ticket buyer Lauri Schneider.

"We got here at 7:30 this morning and was around the corner, half way down the block," said ticket buyer Joy Nakfoor.

Two hours before popular "Wicked" tickets were available online and by phone, fans could buy them at the State Theater.

"It's five week and I wish we had 10," said Hennepin Theatre Trust President Rob Hoch, talking about the shows run.

Some standing in line want the Wicked experience again.

"I did see it the last time it was here and it was awesome. It was one of the best live performances I've ever seen," said Luckinger.

Others want to see what's so spectacular.

"I just really want to see it. I've heard it was a great show and my friends and I are really excited to come watch it," said Nakfoor.

With high demand for tickets comes scalpers. Just hours after tickets were available, online sites had Wicked tickets selling from $125 to more than $300 a piece.

"I think the appeal is that it's a great family show. It's got great production values meaning it's a beautiful show to watch. It's got great music," said Hoch.

"The ending is so fabulous. You won't believe it. You'll go, that's the rest of the story!" said one fan.

Wicked tickets are now limited for all five weeks of performances but none are completely sold out. The show runs from Nov. 5 to Dec. 7.
