The judge overseeing the Red Lake shooting lawsuits has outlined his reasons for keeping the estate of Jeff Weise out of the cases.
Judge Lloyd B. Zimmerman says in his written order Thursday that since Weise acted intentionally when he killed seven people at Red Lake High School, state statutes say he can't be added as a third party in a negligence case.
About two dozen people, including victims' families and shooting survivors, are suing MacNeil Environmental Inc., saying that the consulting firm wasn't qualified to create an emergency plan for the school district.
MacNeil had wanted to add Weise as a third-party defendant.
Zimmerman ruled from the bench last week, and issued his written opinion Thursday.
