A planned obstacle course is causing quite an uproar among neighbors in one Minnesota Community. The obstacle course would be for tanks and other armored vehicles and it would be located on the outskirts of Waseca.
It's not a war zone but it's peaceful, quiet farm country in Waseca, Minn.
However, neighbors are waging a fierce battle over some armored vehicles that the Borglum family had shipped over from England after the Borglum's took a recreational ride while visiting overseas, and were hooked.
"Pretty soon we were bringing back a half a dozen of these things and we said why not share it with everybody. I just like it because nobody's ever seen it before, it's different," said owner of the tanks Tony Borglum.
The Borglum's own 25 acres including their excavating business. They are proposing a tank obstacle course and a shooting range but they need county approval since their land is zoned agricultural. Even though the cannons are disabled, neighbors said it's not safe and the noise will spook nearby farm animals.
"I do not feel it belongs in an agricultural area," said neighbor Gladys Carlson.
Carlson has a son serving in Iraq, and her neighbor Sue Stangler just lost a cousin in the war. They feel this is a disrespectful use of the tanks.
"That's all you think about when you drive by the Borglum site and look at those army tanks," said Stangler.
The Borglum's hope neighbors will visit before they pass judgment.
"Just come out, see what we got, drive around. See that it's pretty harmless. It's just a family adventure," said Tony Borglum.
So far the family has four tanks with three more on the way. The tanks were used by the British Army and sold at auction. There will be a hearing Thursday night to give neighbors a chance to voice their concerns about the proposed obstacle course.
