Immigrant Groups Hold Vigil At Ramsey County Jail

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Immigrants' rights groups are holding a vigil Sunday to remember those who have died while crossing the border into the U.S. or while in immigration detention.

The groups are calling their rally at the Ramsey County jail a "Day of the Dead" vigil. They'll hold a procession and create an altar where members of the community can leave offerings.

Organizers will read the names of those who died and say prayers for them.

One of the people remembered will be Maria Inamagua, who died in 2006 after she went into a coma at the Ramsey Adult Detention Center. She was in custody there while awaiting deportation to Ecuador.

Vigil organizers say over 100 people have died in immigration detention over the past five years. Sunday's rally is at 2:30 p.m.
