University's Concerns About Light Rail Addressed

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― The University of Minnesota is getting assurances that some of its concerns will be addressed about the Central Corridor light rail line.

The university has now signed a memorandum of understanding with other parties involved in building the line, which will connect downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. University regents last month dropped their opposition to running the line through the Minneapolis campus on Washington Avenue.

Wednesday's memorandum of understanding calls for $27 million in mitigations, including $11.1 million for a transit and pedestrian mall on Washington Avenue. The costs will be included in the budget submitted to the federal government.

The Met Council, Hennepin County and the county's rail authority have also signed the agreement. The Minneapolis City Council takes it up Friday.
