An ultraconservative Catholic group in Minnesota has ordained 13 priests, but they won't be recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Winona held an ordination ceremony Friday morning. The group is part of the Society of St. Pius X, which the Vatican does not recognize as having status in the church. The Vatican said earlier this week that any ordinations by the group won't be legitimate.
A spokeswoman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Winona says none of the men ordained Friday will be eligible to serve as priests in southeastern Minnesota or any other Roman Catholic diocese.
