'U' Updates Map Of Rural Crash 'Hot Zones'
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―
Experts at the University of Minnesota want to make July 4th vacations safer for drivers with an updated map of fatal traffic crashes on rural roads in the past five years.
The university's Center for Excellence in Rural Safety has updated its map at
www.saferoadmaps.org with hopes that drivers will be extra careful in those areas.
The original version of the site was launched last year.
The national map highlights 100 rural accident "hot zones." Altogether, 29 states have areas in the top 100 nationally. None are in Minnesota or the Dakotas.
The new version of the site allows anyone using it to enter a ZIP code, city name or street address and immediately see the fatal crashes in the area in the past five years.
