2-Year-Old Stillwater Drowning Victim Identified

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) ― Authorities have released the name of the 2-year-old boy who drowned in a Stillwater swimming pool over the weekend.

Police say Elliott Barbier, the son of Anthony and Kristin Barbier, was found near the deep end of the family's in-ground backyard pool.

Authorities were called to the house shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday. Elliott was pronounced dead at United Hospital in St. Paul about 90 minutes later.

Sgt. Jeff Magler of the Stillwater Police Department says investigators have not yet interviewed the boy's parents, who were home at the time of the accident. But he says it sounds like the father was "very close" and took his eye off the boy only "for a very, very short period of time."
