Fundraiser Set For Cold Spring Teacher In Coma

PAYNESVILLE, Minn. (AP) ― A fundraiser will be held Monday night for a Cold Spring woman who remains in a coma more than two months after eating an E. coli-contaminated hamburger.

Twenty-year-old Stephanie Smith teaches the "Just for Kix" dance program at Paynesville and Rocori high schools.

Smith is at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. She remains in a drug-induced coma.

A fundraiser for Smith begins at seven tonight at Paynesville High School. There will be "Just For Kix" t-shirts, flowers and bracelets for sale and the Just for Kix kids will perform.

A portion of the proceeds will help pay for Smith's medical bills.
