The Minnesota State Fair's 2008 Commemorative Art was unveiled on Wednesday by Stillwater, Minn. artist Edie Abnet. She is the fifth person to get the honor of designing and creating the State Fair artwork.
Abnet said it was a long process. She first took pictures of the fairgrounds to get inspired.
"I've gone to the fair since I was young," she said. Abnet also said she reached back in her childhood to come up with the creative piece of art.
"They represent the old carousel that I remember being thrilled about riding," said the artist.

"They represent the equine background, and they also have that historical significance of horses and the way they've been depicted in art for a long time," said Abnet.
The artist, and part time nurse, used a mixed medium technique with watercolors, crayons and pencils to get a three dimensional effect.
"There's the opaqueness of the crayon, and then there's the translucent of the water color and I like to play that back and fourth," said Abnet. "It's a pretty flat design. The image looks flat, and so when I use that mix medium, those others medias, it's not so flat."
"Everyday you put on layers, and then you go back and you wash off, and it just develops from there," she said.
Commemorative art posters and some signed prints are available at the State Fair box office -- or online at Minnesota State Fair Web site. You can also get them at the State Fair which opens Aug. 21.
