A group of journalists at the bankrupt Star Tribune is launching a campaign to build public support for ensuring the Minneapolis newspaper continues to publish.
The group is launching a Web site, http://www.savethestrib.com, which will go live on Monday. Employees will also be out in force at the Twins opening game that same day where they will pass out petitions, scorecards, newspaper hats and T-shirts.
Organizers say the campaign is not about revisiting the events that led the newspaper to bankruptcy but rather convincing the community the paper is a vital resource, and soliciting ideas on possible new ownership and business models that will ensure its continued existence.
