Three people suffered stab wounds and more had minor injuries after a fight broke out at a Halloween house party. It happened around 1 o'clock Sunday morning in the 4100 of Bunker Lake Boulevard in Ham Lake.
"All I wanted was to have a good time. Overall, it was a good time, a good party until there were those few people who ruined it for everybody," said Mike Motl, who co-hosted the party with his roommates.
It was a big party with bands playing and a couple hundred people. Motl said everyone was having a good time until some people he didn't know and weren't invited showed up and started fighting.
"They were ready, they came here, they found some homemade knives, they all had knives. Stabbed my roommate in the back, stabbed somebody in the gut. It's just something that you wouldn't expect in this area," he recalled.
Brandon, who didn't want to publicize his last name, came to the party to pick up his sister when he saw one of his friends being attacked.
"When I came down the driveway, 'What's going on?' And I seen a knife sticking out of my buddy's back and a guy with a black glove and a coat on with a knife in his back. My first reaction was to save my buddy," he said.
Brandon said he jumped on the guy with the knife and pushed him to the ground. His hand was cut in the scuffle, but not badly. As far as police and partygoers were able to tell, at least two other people were stabbed. According to the Anoka County Sheriff's department, none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Dozens of officers from surrounding police departments and the state patrol came to break up the party and help the injured. Motl said he's not sure why the fights started.
"All's I can think is it was Halloween, easy to get away with stuff, a lot of people were wearing costumes. Maybe they were just looking for trouble," he theorized.
So far, no one has been arrested for the stabbings.
The sheriff's department has not released the names of the victims, so updates on their conditions weren't possible Sunday evening.
In addition to the stabbings, partygoers said other people were also kicked and beaten in the fights.
