Football Is A Family Affair At St. Thomas Academy

(WCCO) When St. Thomas Academy plays at the Metrodome, they get into uniform both on and off the field.

"(We're) trying to make our whole school look good together. We are not letting anybody who's not in uniform sit with us," said Brett Busch, a freshman.

STA is an all boys' school, so for special occasions like the Prep Bowl, they get into full uniform and form their own section. While the Cadets' fans may sit separately, they all cheer together.

"We love it! Supporting the boys," said fans.

One family in particular has had a lot to cheer about this fall.

"The Prep Bowl is always very exciting. Its really fun to get there and the boys are always very excited so it's a fun game to watch," said Amy McManus, who has a son who plays for St. Thomas Academy.

Amy McManus's son Ryan McManus wears number two on the field. He has played quarterback at times this year, but as his dad puts it, he is really a jack of all trades.

"They played Ryan at halfback and wide receiver. Now he plays d-back as well and he's the punter," said Tim McManus, who has a son who plays for St. Thomas Academy.

On Friday, Ryan is trying to do something that hasn't been done since his dad was a junior at STA.

"We won the State Tournament when I was a junior. My older son played in the Prep Bowl, now Ryan, and hopefully my youngest son will get there too," said Tim McManus.
