St. John's President To Resign For Health Reasons

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (AP) ― The president of St. John's University has announced he will resign for health reasons.

The announcement comes just days after the university said it would begin looking for an acting president because of Brother Dietrich Reinhart's cancer diagnosis.

Reinhart's resignation goes into effect as soon as the university has appointed an interim president.

Reinhart, who has been St. John's president since 1991, says in a statement that it has been an honor to serve.

Reinhart says he has been diagnosed with cancer of the lungs and brain, and he says he will shift his focus to his health and well-being.
