State transportation officials say they hope to decide by April 10 whether they will repair or replace the Highway 23 bridge in St. Cloud.
The bridge was closed last week after inspectors found bowed gusset plates in four places.
Replacing the bridge would cost an estimated $30 million, but Jim Povich, an assistant district engineer with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, says funding "is not an issue." He says MnDOT will defer other projects if necessary.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar pledged to seek federal help, after she spoke with city and transportation officials.
National Transportation Safety Board inspectors were in St. Cloud Wednesday to look for similarities between the Highway 23 bridge and the I-35W bridge, which collapsed Aug. 1, killing 13 people.
