2 Ceremonies For Minn. Troops Heading To Iraq

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Ceremonies will be held for two Minnesota National Guard units heading to Iraq.

Both ceremonies are scheduled Monday -- one in Oklahoma, the other in St. Paul.

A departure ceremony will be held at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for more than 700 members of the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade, which will command and maintain Blackhawk, Apache and Chinook helicopters.

Officials say the troops will help transport cargo, personnel and materials in Iraq.

The brigade has been training at Fort Sill for the past three months. After the ceremony, the St. Paul-based nonprofit group "Serving Our Troops" will provide a steak luncheon to the soldiers and their families.

In St. Paul, a deployment ceremony will be held for 70 soldiers of the C Company (Air Ambulance), 2nd Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment. The soldiers operate Blackhawk helicopters and will conduct medical evacuations and medical resupply missions.

Those soldiers will head to Fort Sill for two months of training before deploying to Iraq.
