Driver Killed In Turkey Truck Crash In NW Minn.

ROLLAG, Minn. (AP) ― Clay County authorities have released the name of a truck driver killed when the truck filled with turkeys went off the road near the northwestern Minnesota town of Rollag.

KFGO Radio is reporting the victim was 57-year-old Doyle Nelson of Goodrich. Nelson was with Nelson farms and was hauling up to 2,000 turkeys when the crash happened early Friday.

Sheriff Bill Bergquist says the truck ran off the road and crashed at the bottom of a steep embankment on County Road 35. The crash was discovered about 4:40 a.m. He says it was about a 50-foot drop.

Hundreds of turkeys were either killed, injured or stunned in the crash. Officials spent part of the day trying to round up those still alive.

Rollag is around 20 miles east of Moorhead.
