"Every door I felt was open to me when I got out of the military has been closed," said Staff Sergeant Scott Adams.

"Every door that I felt would be open to me when I got out of the military -- has been closed," said Staff Sergeant Scott Adams.
Living in a hotel room with his wife, three teenage sons and three dogs is not the life Adams envisioned for his family. How they got there has a lot to do with his tour of duty in Iraq.
While on patrol in the city of Baji, two anti-tank mines exploded under Adams' truck, burning him severely.
"I end up with 47 percent burns to my body -- 34 (percent) was third degree full thickness burns," said Adams.
Adams also suffered shoulder and back injuries that prevent him from doing even the simplest things.
"I still can't throw a ball with my kids because I don't have full range of motion in my right arm."
He can live with that. What he can't live with is knowing his family is being denied a home loan for their dream house because of a technicality.
Adams is a wounded soldier, but will be medically retired in November. Until then, Veterans Affairs can only provide an estimated figure on what he will receive when his retirement becomes official.
Mortgage lenders are looking for an exact figure and since they don't have one, they won't approve a loan. In the meantime, the Adams' are in limbo. They sold their house in Wayzata thinking they would be moving into a new home in St. Bonifacious. All they can do now is wait.
"It feels like I can't provide for my family. Ya know, it's depressing," said Adams. "I don't know any way to word it."
Adams and his wife think the current state of the housing market may also be hurting their chances at a home loan.
