Officers responded to a school bus accident around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at 6th Street and Mankato Avenue in Winona.
When police arrived, the 2005 Minnesota City Bus Service school bus was up on the curb of Mankato Avenue between 6th and 7th streets on the east side, resting against a tree. There was a 5 year old and a teacher's aide on the bus, but no one was injured.
The bus driver, Barbara Gail Baures, said she felt a bump and then lost control of the bus. The bus then collided with a parked 1996 Plymouth Voyager, causing minor damage. Then, the bus hit a second parked 1996 Plymouth Voyager causing severe damage and then collided with a 1992 Chevy truck with a trailer, causing severe damage.
The bus then jumped the curb and hit a tree on the boulevard.
All three vehicles belonged to Jeffrey Carr Read and were legally parked. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.
The state patrol was called to conduct an inspection on the bus and no mechanical problems were found.
The accident remains under investigation.
