Outdoors Groups Highlight Minn. Sales Tax Projects

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) ― Supporters of Minnesota's latest constitutional amendment raising the state sales tax are showing what the money will do.

Environmental and outdoors groups visit St. Paul, Duluth and Rochester Monday to talk about projects that will go ahead with sales tax money, including cleanup of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

The tax goes up on Wednesday.

The increase is three-eighths of 1 percent, or 15 cents on a $40 purchase.

Voters approved a constitutional amendment last November to raise cash for habitat, water, parks, trails and arts and cultural programs.

The first round of projects also includes prairie restoration in Anoka County and protection for the Rum River and Cedar Creek.
