Anti-War Protesters Get Permit For GOP Convention

ST. PAUL (AP) ― A group planning an anti-war rally and march during this summer's Republican National Convention has secured a permit for a demonstration at the state Capitol.

Leaders of the so-named Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War told state officials they are expecting between 30,000 and 50,000 people at the Sept. 1 rally. It will be held on the opening day of the GOP nominating convention.

The state permit is only step one for the group. It still needs city permission to hold the march to the Xcel Energy Center, the site of the national convention.

St. Paul city officials won't accept applications from protest groups until March 1.
