Renae Gustafson, 43, of Minneapolis, died in the crash along with a Jennifer Keesey, 33, also from Minnesota. Kristine Boike, 44, of Brooklyn Park was severely injured in the accident Thursday in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Two Minnesota women were killed, and another was seriously hurt, when a speeding Chevrolet Corvette slammed into their rental car while the women were vacationing in southeastern Florida.
Renae Gustafson, 43, of Minneapolis, died in the crash along with a Jennifer Keesey, 33, also from Minnesota. Kristine Boike, 44, of Brooklyn Park was severely injured in the accident Thursday in Pompano Beach, Fla.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office report said the force of the collision knocked the motor of the women's Chevrolet Monte Carlo from the frame of the car, and sent the Corvette airborne through the bushes of a nearby parking lot.
The report said the Monte Carlo was attempting a U-turn when it was struck by the sports car.
"Awful, just awful," said Renae's mother, Delores Gustafson of Willmar, of the crash. Delores, and her husband Milton, have lived in the Willmar area for more than 25 years. She said she found out about her daughter's death Thursday.
Delores Gustafson said Renae and her two friends had visited Florida before and were staying at a condominium complex where they had a time-share.
Renae Gustafson lived in Minneapolis for more than 10 years and taught physical education at Metcalf Junior High in Burnsville, her mother said.
The driver of the Corvette and his passenger were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. No criminal charges were filed, pending an investigation by the sheriff's office DUI Task Force.
The funeral service for Renae Gustafson was pending in Willmar.
Pompano Beach is about 36 miles north of Miami.
