Voters To Consider School Bond Referendums

(AP) Voters in the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop School District decide a bond referendum Tuesday.

Two questions are on the ballot. One involves replacing boilers in all three schools, as well as adding new locker rooms at the high school, adding a new band room and remodeling the theater.

The total cost of question one would be just over $4 million.

The second question asks voters to fund improvements to school entrances and loading zones -- at a cost of just under $1.3 million. Question two can only be approved if question one passes.

Polls will be open at each school from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, the polls are open in the Lake Park-Audubon School District, where voters are also deciding a school bond referendum.

It's the fourth time in two years that residents have been asked to approve new buildings for the western Minnesota district. The last building bond referendum failed by just over 90 votes.

The ballot has two questions. The first calls for voters to approve a new high school in Lake Park and renovations at Audubon Elementary School for $23 million.

The second question calls for upgrades of parking and athletic facilities -- including a track and football field -- as well as geothermal heating for an additional $2.8 million.

Both questions together would be for around $25.8 million.
