MN Girl, 9, To Show Off Skills At NFC Championship

(WCCO) A local girl will get to show off her skills at the NFC championship game in North Carolina Saturday.

Tori Hanson from Delano, Minn., will compete in the NFL's Punt, Pass & Kick Competition.

Judging from her ability, she will be hard to beat.

"I kicked it 79 feet," said Tori.

Tori, 9, had the highest score in her division of the competition. She has been preparing with the pig skin every day with her mom as her coach.

"I do 10 punts -- sometimes more -- 10 kicks, and maybe 10 or five throws," said the fourth grader.

She recently had to compete against other 9-year-old girls throughout the state.

"I punted 63 and my throw was 61 (feet)," said Tori. "I can throw 80 feet."

Tori said she got into football while watching her older brother play. Besides using her amazing athletic ability, she said her shoes might also give her an edge.

"I do it with my basketball shoes and I guess I like those a lot."

Whatever she does, she will only have one chance to impress the judges. She will get one punt, one pass and one kick. She'll be judge on accuracy and distance.

Tori's gym teacher thinks she'll score big.

"That's incredible. It's got to be a big thrill for her and I hope she does really well down there. It's a difficult thing to do those three events," said her teacher Paul Stang.

Tori also plays volleyball and softball. She said her favorite football team is the Philadelphia Eagles.
