Police Impostor Reported In Brown County

NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) ― The Brown County Sheriff's Office is investigating reports about someone allegedly impersonating a police officer and pulling over motorists.

In October, police first received reports about a man driving a dark SUV who was flagging down motorists and then approaching the drivers and accusing them of speeding. The suspect wore a badge around his neck but offered no other identification, authorities said.

Recently, reports of an impostor have involved a Ford Crown Victoria with emergency lights on the visor and rear window deck.

The sheriff's office said motorists who are stopped by an unmarked squad car and approached by someone in plainclothes should ask the person for identification. If the motorist believes the person isn't a police officer, they should call 911.
