Police: Man Arrested After Failed Cop Car Getaway

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― A man is in Ramsey County Jail after St. Paul Police say he ran from officers and stole a police car.

Police said 24-year-old Jumoke Cryer had a warrant out for his arrest because he's run from officers before and didn't show up for court earlier this month.

At 7 p.m. Saturday an officer tried to arrest Cryer near the corner of Fuller Avenue and North Fisk Street when Cryer made a run for it, according to police. The officer chased him on foot, but Cryer doubled back and allegedly got into the squad car before driving off.

Police said they caught up to Cryer several blocks away when he crashed into three cars near Dale Street North and Interstate 94 and tried to run again. No one was seriously hurt in the crash, but the police car was totaled.

Court records say Cryer has previously pleaded guilty to other crimes including drunken driving, robbery and public urination.
